New management at Northrepps Cottage bring celebrity touch

A new husband and wife management team have taken over the reins at Northrepps Cottage Country Hotel near Cromer, bringing an A-list alfresco dining experience to North Norfolk.
Laura and Jonathan Gardiner were appointed managers of the 18th century, flint-fronted hotel at the end of May, bringing more than 30 year’s combined experience in hospitality.
Originally from Sheringham and Cromer, the couple have returned home after a decade in Bramwell, Stockport, where they ran their own outside catering business, serving some well-known sporting and celebrity names.
Their alfresco menus have been served up at prestigious events and enjoyed by the cast of Coronation Street, Manchester United players and some of the world’s best golfers at the Open qualifying rounds.
Now the Gardiners want to bring this A-list dining experience to the quiet village of Northrepps.
Working with Gurney Estate owners, Deborah and Simon Gurney, Laura and Jonathan have been busy adding new touches to the hotel and Repton’s Restaurant.
An award-winning head chef, Jonathan has launched a new summer menu. Described as modern British cuisine with a seasonal influence, it uses fresh produce harvested within the estate’s own grounds, plus ingredients from local suppliers. Diners can also enjoy the freshest sea bass, caught by the hotel’s own staff at nearby Cromer and delivered to the Northrepps Cottage kitchen within 45 minutes.
Also new for this summer is an alfresco dining experience, making the most of the hotel’s beautiful grounds.
Jonathan explains: “We’re surrounded by tranquil gardens and want to make the most of our outside space. We’ve just launched a new service, where one of our chefs will cook lobster, crab, smoked prawns or steak for guests at their table, on their very own barbecue. It’s proving very popular.”
Laura, who leads the front of house team, adds: “Northrepps Cottage remains a bit of a hidden gem in North Norfolk and we want to put it on the map for outstanding food and service in a peaceful, secluded setting.”
No need to book, Laura and Jonathan say Repton’s Restaurant welcomes families and groups of friends looking for a light lunch or drink.
The perfect stop-off after a walk along the coast at Overstrand or Cromer, four legged friends are welcome too as the bar has been made dog-friendly for the first time.
Not stopping there, the couple have a strong vision for the future. Laura adds: “North Norfolk has a very rich offer in terms of food, drink and hospitality so we know we have to deliver something special.
“To stay ahead, we have to give people new reasons to come back so we have other plans, including adding glamping to our accommodation offer. Its early days, but we’re excited about the future.”
