My Work Experience at Reflection PR

in News

Charlotte has just completed a full-week of work experience with us at Reflection PR and here’s her story telling you all about her experience….

I’m just about to go into my third and final year at Cambridge University, and the big, bad, grown up world is fast approaching.  The jump from university to work is an exciting one that will (hopefully!) be the start of a fulfilling career. When I approached Reflection PR, I was hoping that career might be one in public relations and after an intense week of work experience I know that PR could well be a perfect fit for me.

Reflection is the perfect place to be introduced to the PR world – it’s a small firm which is both friendly but ambitious, and I’ve been able to see many aspects of working in public relations.   From writing blog posts, to creating e-shots and press releases to the obligatory media lists, everyday has been busy and varied.  I’ve even had the chance to be involved with event planning for Reflection PR’s upcoming coffee morning.  I might be new to PR, but Reflection still gave me the opportunity to do interesting tasks which would challenge me and give me the insight that I wanted. I truly felt like part of the Reflection team, and Amanda gave me responsibilities to match that, the stereotype of work experience meaning full time coffee maker was certainly not the case- in fact, several times she made me the coffee!

My favourite part of this week was seeing coverage in the EDP that I helped to secure. PR professionals and journalists work closely with each other, and it was so exciting to see the way that all those press releases, phone calls, emails and hard work can translate into results that have a real positive impact upon a company.I’ve learnt that research is also a hugely important aspect of PR, to ensure that you’re targeting the right people (be they businesses or consumers) in the right way. Social media means that information is constantly changing hands, and so people’s perceptions can change just as quickly. PR is about keeping ahead of the game to make sure that you can act quickly, and in the right way, to get the right results.

Working with Reflection has been absolutely brilliant, and I would like to say a huge thank you! This work experience has made me so excited about the future, and I can now go into it confident that PR is the right choice for me.
