There’s no doubt about it – awards are a fantastic way of placing your company under the media spotlight. And with thousands of categories to choose from, it’s not hard to find one that best reflects your company’s ethos.
But the tricky question on everyone’s lips is… how do you write an award entry that gets you noticed?
Here are a few of our top tips for writing an award entry that packs a punch.Prove it! It doesn’t matter whether you think your company offers the most amazing customer service if you can’t back it up with hard facts and evidence. Most award submissions will state their company is ‘leading’ but can you prove this? Back up every claim with evidence.So what? When writing an award entry, apply the so what? factor. Every sentence should be meaningful and add value. You only have a short amount of space to really impress the judges. Don’t waste it.Do your homework Before you start to write your submission, put yourself in the judge’s shoes. Carefully read the criteria as this gives vital clues on what they’re looking for. Make it easy for them to select you as a finalist.Stand out from the crowd Be honest. Does your entry impress you? No? Then it certainly won’t impress the judges. It helps to have another pair of eyes look at your submission to make sure it is as strong as possible.Use plain English I’m sure your industry understands your technical jargon. But the judges won’t. Carefully read your entry and remove any jargon, making sure you use plain English. Your copy will magically become clearer.Go for it! Us British are terribly polite and don’t like blowing our own trumpet. But if you’re not entering awards and making yourself visible, your competitors probably are. Being shortlisted or winning an award gives you credibility and boosts your profile. So, if your company really is doing a good job, shout about it and gain the recognition you deserve.
