Client News: Shop for Christmas gifts with a unique twist and support young start-ups
in News
Looking for an alternative, handmade gift for a loved-one this Christmas? Are your relatives difficult to buy for? Are they fed-up of receiving the same old gift-set year after year?
Then stop by the John Peel Centre, Stowmarket, on Friday 6th November and browse a beautiful selection of unique goods while meeting the young people who made them.
From a revolutionary range of men’s boxer shorts, to contemporary jewellery, home interior products, stationary, musical instruments and ceramics, the Creative Enterprise Christmas Market offers the chance to pick up something truly different.
Organised by Suffolk charity Good Story, with support from The Inner Wheel Club of Stowmarket, shoppers can meet and buy from 12 creative stallholders all under the age of 30.
An exciting range of artisan, handmade gifts and crafts on offer will include:
- Men’s underwear from The Unmentionables – alternative and fittingly British styled boxer shorts for men, made in England
- Notebooks, cushions, gift wrap and cards from contemporary stationary and homewares designer, Sparrow + Wolf
- On-trend fashion jewellery, including stacking rings and statement necklaces from The Folly Studio
- Handmade musical instruments, including ukuleles and travel guitars handcrafted by Suffolk musician, Otis Luxton. Luxton Instruments are made to order and carved from English woods. Otis will be displaying his instruments and taking orders.
Good Story was set up in early 2013 by Lavenham couple Malcolm and Nicky McAllister together with Nicky’s son Rory, in loving memory of Nicky’s daughter, Mimi Watts. A talented clothing designer, Mimi sadly died in a snowboarding accident in Chamonix in December 2012. At just 26, she was in the midst of launching her own business.
The charity supports creative people aged 18 to 30 with business mentoring and funding. November’s market will bring together 12 young business owners, to learn from one another and sell goods to members of the public.
Almost three years on since it launched, this year Good Story has formed a new partnership with The Dyslexia Association to fund and support creative entrepreneurs who face additional challenges with running their own business.
Friday’s event is from 11am-5pm at The John Peel Centre, Stowmarket and is free to attend. Refreshments can be purchased from the centre’s bar.
