Client News: Highball Climbing Centre launches new over 50’s club

in Leisure and tourism

Highball Climbing Centre, in Norwich, has launched a brand new initiative to inspire people aged over 50 to socialise, whilst experiencing something new.

Silverbacks is a new weekly climbing club on Tuesdays encouraging the older generation to get involved in climbing. Acknowledged as one of the only sports to have ‘life-time participation’, this session is designed for both complete beginners and regulars, offering free coaching and advice.

According to the NHS, people can enjoy climbing throughout their life. With no age limitation, it is a fantastic way to keep active and healthy, using strength, technique and problem solving – there’s always a fresh challenge.

During the Silverbacks sessions members can experiment with bouldering (climbing with no rope/harnesses), climbing (with ropes and harnesses for protection) and low level traversing (climbing sidewise at a low level).

Mike Surtees, Highball Climbing Centre’s Managing Director, is delighted to announce the launch of the Silverbacks sessions saying:

“After the success of our regular Ladies Nights and other specialised sessions, we’re looking forward to welcoming both new and regular climbers to get involved in our Silverbacks initiative.

With many of our members climbing well into their 70’s, we hope to prove that age has no limitations when it comes to climbing.”

Silverbacks members benefit from a reduced price of £5, free coaching and advice from the team and private coaching sessions. Sessions start from 12 noon every Tuesday. Book online for Silverbacks discounts click here.
