Apprenticeships open the door to opportunities

in News

The PR industry is very competitive so it’s essential to do something that puts you ahead of other candidates and one way to do this is through an apprenticeship.

ApprenticeLast week, 48 apprentices placed in a Government-backed scheme by Pearson in Practice and the PRCA started the classroom based teaching element of their apprenticeships. They also gained the support of McDonald’s vice-president of communications, Nick Hindle as he spoke to mark the UK-wide induction of students.

It is great to see lots of students beginning apprenticeships as it’s important to gain both experience and qualifications to succeed in an industry as competitive as the PR industry, or any sector for that matter.

As competition is high, employers are looking for all round performance and this is something apprenticeships help with. By gaining relevant experience, you’ll also quickly learn if it’s the right career for you.

When I studied for my degree at university, I knew I had to gain experience so completed a variety of work placements at four different agencies. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at each agency and it gave me the chance to see different aspects to the job and possible areas to enter. The practical knowledge I gained was also invaluable.

With the cost of tuition fees rising, apprenticeships may be an attractive alternative to university. And a recent report from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills also shows that Britain’s apprentices are getting promoted, improving their confidence and taking on more responsibility in the workplace.

This is good for businesses and a survey courtesy of the National Apprentice Service showed 88% of employers who employ apprentices believe that apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce.
